Ellenbrook’s Holy Cross College won their first School Sport WA Secondary School Championships at Lakelands Country Club yesterday thanks to the outstanding play of youngsters Emma Clouston and Ethan Hews. The pair scored a combined 76 and were closely followed by Leeming Senior High School’s Josiah Lim and Mufaro Mugwenhi who scored 74 and Harrisdale Senior High’s Josiah Edwards, Albert Golbourn and Charlton Wee who finished on 72. This meant that Holy Cross also took out the Independent Schools title.
It was also a very close race in the individual results with Kingsway Christian College’s Ollie Marsh posting an impressive overall gross score of 70 to pip successful junior Aldrich Potgieter. An impressive feat considering Ollie is only in Year 8 at school. Corpus Christi’s Amanda Gan continued her strong form in GolfWA events taking out the girls overall gross title with a score of 75.
There were some fantastic scores posted to win their individual year group titles. Louis Heyns (Year 7), Olie Marsh (Year 8), Ethan Hews (Year 9), Amanda Gan (Year 10), Mufaro Mugwenhi (Year 11) and Freddie Walker (Year 12) took out their respective year group stableford titles in impressive fashion, navigating a beautiful Lakelands course with ease.
The State Schoolboy and State Schoolgirl teams were also announced yesterday, adding to player’s reasons to celebrate. The Schoolboy team will consist of Aldrich Potgeiter (Kingsway Christian College), Lachlan Hall (Australian Christian College), Corley Mclernon (Como Secondary College), Izaac Heals (Mandurah Catholic College), Oliver Cranny (Trinity College) and Joseph Buttress (Australian Catholic College). Meanwhile, representing the Schoolgirl team will be Sheridan Clancy (Carine Senior High School), Mai Julius (Como Secondary College), Valerie Khuu (Willetton Senior High School), Amanda Gan (Corpus Christ College) and Isabella Leniartek (All Saints College).
