Wanneroo Golf Club’s Sonet Coetzee and Sheryl Van Wyk made the most of home course advantage to claim a narrow victory in the GolfWA Women’s 4BBB playoff.

Forty-six pairs from club qualifying competitions from around the state gathered at Wanneroo GC for the playoff, with players from sand greens and grass greens club well represented.

The long-running competition is played in a fourball betterball format with the best score on each hole contributing to the team’s Stableford total.

As well as getting their names in the GolfWA history books, the winners also earned a travel voucher and admission to the ISPS HANDA Australian Open, which this year takes place in Melbourne from November 28-December 1.

In idyllic conditions, several teams beat their handicaps to return strong scores, but none could match the efforts of Sonet and Cheryl (pictured above), whose 45-point haul gave them a three-point margin of victory.

The joint runners-up on countbacks were defending champions Naomi Dorrington and Sharon Nield (Boyup Brook GC) and Joondalup Country Club’s Lorraine Smith and Judy Herbert.
