WA Women gallant in #IntSeries final defeat

10th May 2018

New South Wales are the 2018 Women’s Interstate Champions after narrowly defeating Western Australia 4-2 in a tense final at Glenelg Golf Club on Thursday afternoon.

A gallant WA outfit threw everything at the previously unbeaten side, qualifying for the final after victory over Tasmania in the morning session.

The vastly experienced NSW team showed plenty of poise to lead for majority of the contest, despite Royal Fremantle’s Abbie Teasdale grabbing an early point for the WA side.

NSW leaders Amy Chu and Steph Kryiacou wrestled back the momentum with comfortable wins over Kathyrn Norris and Australian Junior Champion Maddison Hinson-Tolchard respectively, meaning one more win would be enough to secure the title.

Georgia Shears and Yeah-Jin Lee were unable to notch wins for WA meaning New South Wales were crowned winners in difficult conditions in Adelaide.

Western Australian captain Kirsten Rudgeley finished her tournament on a high going undefeated throughout the campaign.

The Wanneroo youngster’s final win over Doey Choi moved her tally to five wins and one halve over the week, with her impressive run of victories the backbone behind WA’s finals tilt.
