GolfWA has been successful in its bid to win a government grant for October’s 100th WA Open Golf Championship.
The WA Open was one of 35 sporting events that will share a windfall of almost $1.2m from the Sport & Recreation Events Funding Program.
Administered by the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries (DLGSC), the program supports sporting and recreation organisations to plan, secure and deliver sport and mass participation events across the state.
GolfWA was awarded a $50,000 grant, which will be used to deliver “a spectacular, celebratory” WA Open, according to Chief Executive Gary Thomas.
“We are very grateful to the DLGSC for supporting our vision for our flagship event, the WA Open,” he said.
“2024 marks the 100th staging of the championship, which will be hosted by Mandurah Country Club for the very first time. We hope that this grant will allow us to more effectively engage the local community to support the event and to deliver a spectacular, celebratory WA Open, befitting of its history and prestige.”
The 100th WA Open Golf Championship takes place at Mandurah Country Club from October 17-20. Simon Hawkes is the defending champion. Keep up to date with event developments at our new online portal.
In a separate bid, the PGA of Australia was also successful in being awarded $30,000 for the WA PGA Championship, which takes place at Kalgoorlie Golf Course the week before the WA Open.
