Fran Tompkins, a dedicated golf administrator and a leading light for women’s golf in Western Australia, passed away on Monday 26th August 2019.
Tompkins became Vice President of the WA Ladies Golf Association in 1993 before ascending to the role of President in 1995, a position she held for five years.
During Fran Tompkins’ tenure as President of WALGA, she was a delegate to the Australian Ladies Golf Union and a member of the Finance Committee. Under her tenure, the WALGA changed their name to Women’s Golf Western Australia.
Former WALGA President Kay Lane was saddened to hear of Fran Tompkins’ passing.
Fran had a critical mind and was a great host”, Mrs Lane recalls.
She really liked to be part of the decision-making process for state women’s golf, as well as on the National scene.
Fran was a keen golfer herself and was awarded Life Membership of Nedlands Golf Club. More recently she was a member of Albany Golf Club.
Tompkins’ contribution to golf administration was recognised in 2000 when she was awarded the Australian Sports Medal. The Australian Sports Medal commemorates the efforts of Australians who have made our country a nation of sporting excellence
GolfWA sends our condolences to Fran’s family during this time.
Fran Tompkins’ funeral service will be held at Amity Rose at 10 am on Friday, August 30.
