A range of improvements are expected at Collier Park Golf Course after the City of South Perth agreed to extend the lease of current operator Clublinks Management.
After a tender process, the council unanimously voted to extend Clublinks’ lease by up to 21 years after being impressed by the company’s long-term plans for the popular 27-hole public facility.
Clublinks first took up management of Collier Park in 2018 and oversaw the development of the $2m mini golf course, which opened in 2021 and hosted the final of the inaugural Mini Golf Championship of WA last November.
Future development proposals include construction of a two-storey driving range, an all abilities playground and a padel tennis facility, as well as upgrades to the existing retail area, food and beverage facilities, function centre and office spaces. There are currently no plans to modify any of the three nine-hole courses or surrounding bushland.
The number of rounds played at Collier Park has jumped from 95,908 in 2019-20 to 119,335 in 2022-23, but a council report concluded that some of its facilities, which include indoor/outdoor cafe dining, clubhouse, admin offices and pro shop, are considered in need of a refresh – matters that would have been addressed had construction of the now-abandoned Recreation and Aquatic Facility gone ahead.
The report estimated that about $15m would need to be spent over the next five years to ensure the course remained a financially viable community asset.
