May is a good month to be a golf fan, with men’s and women’s Major Championships fast approaching and plenty of domestic events to get excited about.
Although the Majors will garner most attention, WA golf aficionados are in for a treat with a glut of PGA Pro-Am series events taking place around the state, which are always well supported by our leading domestic tour pros and top amateurs.
Here we outline the golf events WA fans may want to tune into or get along to in person in the coming month…
Major Championships
The second men’s Major of the season, the PGA Championship, takes place at Quail Hollow Golf Club, North Carolina, from May 15-18.
Following on from his career-defining victory at The Masters, Rory McIlroy will start as hot favourite to lift the Wanamaker Trophy at a course he has won four PGA Tour events at – most recently the 2024 Wells Fargo Championship. Xander Schauffele defends.
WA golf fans can get behind Min Woo Lee and Karl Vilips – both of whom have won on tour in 2025 – with fellow Aussies Cam Davis, Jason Day and Cam Smith all confirmed in the field.
A fortnight later, the biggest event in women’s golf, the US Women’s Open, will unfold at Wisconsin’s Erin Hills from May 29-June 1.
With 16 LPGA Tour titles, including three Majors, between them, WA favourites Hannah Green and Minjee Lee spearhead the Aussie challenge. Green’s missed cut at the Chevron Championship notwithstanding, both have shown strong form in early 2025, with Minjee a past champion following her epic 2022 success at Pine Needles Golf Club (pictured above).
Steph Kyriacou and Gabi Ruffels are the other Australians already confirmed in the field.
Both events will be televised on Foxtel and Kayo.
adidas Pro-Am Series
The WA swing of the annual Pro-Am Series is in full force throughout May, with events at Dunsborough Lakes, Bunbury, Cottesloe, The Cut, Secret Harbour, WAGC, Wembley, Spalding Park, Nedlands and Sun City throughout the month.
A number of WA’s most popular tour golfers support these events, which offer decent prize purses and an excellent opportunity for spectators to get up close to the action in a relatively relaxed environment.
Two of the biggest are the South West Isuzu South West Open at Bunbury on May 3-4, which features its own ‘Party Hole’; and the Sanwell Cottesloe Open on May 10-11.
The latter will feature DP World Tour-bound Ryan Peake (pictured above), fresh from his New Zealand Open success and being named the Challenger PGA Tour of Australasia’s Rookie of the Year, and Jason Scrivener, who is taking a few weeks off the DP World Tour.

Amateur golf
The Australian Interstate Teams Matches take place at Melville Glades GC from May 5-7, gathering the cream of the domestic amateur game – both men and women – on WA soil.
The round-robin tournament features eight individual match play encounters per tie (four men, four women), with each team playing five matches.
After a disappointing fifth-place finish on the Gold Coast in 2024, WA will be looking to offer a much sterner test in their own backyard having not won the event since it moved to a combined team format in 2021.
Spectators are welcome to attend and will be in for a treat with rising Aussie stars including Jazy Roberts, Ella Scaysbrook, Reagan Denton, Jye Halls and Abel Eduard gracing the event.

All Abilities golf
A Major Championship for All Abilities golfers, the G4D Open is staged by the R&A and this year will be held at Woburn’s Duchess Course in England from May 15-17.
Eighty of the top All Abilities players from across the world will tee it up at the event, with WA’s Gary Burgess (pictured above) amongst them. Recent past winners of the WA Open All Abilities Championship, Cam Pollard and Lachlan Wood, are also in the field.
