TeeMates – Golf Australia’s affordable, new virtual golf membership for juniors – is officially up and running in WA with four clubs signing up to support the initiative.
Hartfield, Marangaroo, Point Walter and Carramar are the first WA clubs to align themselves with the TeeMates membership program, which offers juniors the chance to play golf at partner venues for just $5.
Launched in April, TeeMates – a joint venture from Golf Australia (GA) and Youth on Course (YoC) – aims to provide opportunities for children to play golf at a reduced rate, at times that suit them, and in competitive events with their peers. Depending on their level of membership, TeeMates will also allow children to gain an official GA handicap.
Speaking about TeeMates’ launch in WA, GolfWA Chief Executive Gary Thomas said: “To get more kids playing, we need to make sure golf is affordable and accessible in all its forms. TeeMates is a big step towards that goal, and we’re delighted that the first WA clubs have signed up to offer their backing.”
Douglas Bailey, Belgravia Leisure Golf Area Manager, who oversees operations at, Marangaroo Golf Course, Point Walter Golf Couse, and Carramar Golf Course, expressed his enthusiasm for the program.
“We’re thrilled to be among the first clubs in Western Australia to embrace the TeeMates initiative. It’s not just about making golf affordable for our young players, it’s about nurturing a love for the game that will last a lifetime,” he said.
“We’re confident that TeeMates will help us deliver on our commitment to grow the game of golf in our community, by making it more accessible to the next generation.”
How to get involved in TeeMates
More than 800 children across Australia have already signed up for membership – a number that is increasing daily.
Non-handicap memberships costs $49 per year, while a membership with a GA handicap is $109 annually. These fees include personal liability insurance cover.
More than 35 clubs across every state and territory are supporting the project, with members eligible to play for $5 at any of the clubs should they wish to play on their travels.
In addition, members are able to participate in a growing list of events in order to provide accessible pathways into competitive golf. These include GolfWA’s successful Crunch&Sip Junior Tour events.
In the longer term, TeeMates will expand to include access to mini-golf facilities, driving ranges and golf simulators across the country to drive participation in all forms of golf.
