Mandurah’s Jason Scrivener will compete at the 118th US Open Championship after finishing seventh in Sectional Qualifying at the Walton Heath Golf Club in Surrey yesterday.
The Shinnecock Hills event will present as Scrivener’s first ever Major Championship, with the 29-year-old shooting seven-under-par in a dramatic day of qualifying.
Scores of 69 and 68 were enough for the former NSW Open champion, with the WA talent set to line up in one of the world’s biggest golf tournaments, starting next Thursday.
Andrew ‘Beef’ Johnston and James Morrison finished on top of the respective qualifying event with -10 through 36 holes.
The top 14 players qualified for the US Open, with Scrivener shooting six birdies in his second round to all but guarantee a spot in the major.
Brett Rumford also took part at Walton Heath, however didn’t manage to qualify.
Scrivener will be joined by fellow Australian players Jason Day, Marc Leishman, Cameron Smith, Adam Scott, Aaron Baddeley and David Bransdon.
