Beloved West Aussie local Brett Rumford will headline an exciting field at this week’s Nexus Risk WA Open at Cottesloe Golf Club.
A six-time European Tour winner, Rumford won the WA Open title back in 2005 and made his last appearance at the event in 2017 at his home course of Royal Perth.
A late change in his playing schedule has allowed the local fan-favourite the opportunity to play back-to-back events at home. It is a rare opportunity amidst a busy touring calendar.
TX Civil & Logistics WA PGA champion Darren Beck will be looking to continue the hot run of form he built up in Kalgoorlie last week.
The 41-year-old New South Welshman’s putter was on fire in Kalgoorlie helping him to card six birdies on the back-nine on the way to his first title since 2008.
Jarryd Felton is another local with promise to keep an eye on. The young Gosnell’s member fell just short at last week’s WA PGA and will be hoping to go one better this week.
Speaking after his second-place finish at the WA PGA Felton said, “It shows that my game’s not too far away. It would have been good to get a win, hopefully, I’ll get one at the end of the year.”
Competing alongside the professionals will be a host of amateurs looking to repeat the heroics of last year’s champion Zach Murray.
Josh Greer headlines the local amateur hopefuls and will be looking to use the Nexus Risk WA Open as part of his preparation ahead of the Junior President’s Cup being played in Melbourne in December.
Lukas Michel is another amateur to watch out for. Michel is coming off a whirlwind few weeks that saw him claim the 2019 US Mid-Amateur Championship. This victory has guaranteed Michel starts at both the 2020 Masters and US Open.
All the action gets underway Thursday morning at Cottesloe Golf Club. Entry is free across the entire four days of competition so bring the family to see some of the best golf on one of Perth’s best courses.
