Royal Fremantle are back where they belong.
The side returned to the top flight of Men’s Pennants yesterday after a tight 4-3 victory over Melville Glades at Gosnells Golf Club, sending an ominous warning to the rest of the competition for 2019.
Exactly 12 months had passed since Royal Fremantle lost in the final against Mount Lawley for promotion, with Captain Fritz Arnold believing that last season proved the perfect motivator for success.
“From being relegated a couple of years ago, to go undefeated and lose in the final, it was tough,” Arnold said.
“As a group we felt responsible to get the team back, it drove us every week.”
“We wouldn’t have been satisfied with anything other than winning our way back into Division 1.”
The proud club returns to the top men’s division after two seasons outside the competition, building a team full of consistency and experience.
“We had nine guys play across the season, all willing to put the work in and fully behind the team goal,” he claimed.
“We certainly had a strong culture which reflected through all four of their teams.”
Royal Fremantle now turn their attention to 2019, as they look to become the third side in succession to be promoted and win Division One the following season.
“Considering the trend it would be amazing to follow suit,” he said.
“We’ll be facing quality opposition, but we are confident in our squad and there will be plenty of extra motivation given we are now in the big league.”
“We’ve fought so hard to earn our Division One spot, and we’ll continue to have that same endeavour next season.
