Victorian Jazy Roberts takes a one-stroke advantage into the final day after a battling display at a rain-affected Bowra & O’Dea Women’s Classic.
A torrential downpour temporarily flooded greens at The Western Australian Golf Club, leading to an hour’s suspension while excess water drained away.
Leading by two strokes overnight at -3 after 36 holes, Roberts (pictured above) overcame a three-putt bogey immediately after the rain delay to compile a steady round of 74 (one over par) that included an excellent par save on the last after finding trouble.
Playing partner Sheridan Clancy – the Lake Karrinyup product who now represents Scotland – dropped a stroke at the par-five 18th to fall a shot adrift of Roberts but remains poised for a title charge tomorrow at -1 for the championship.
Behind them, the leaderboard in the 72-hole championship is tightly bunched with several players within striking distance of Roberts’ lead.
Australian international Ella Scaysbrook (NSW) is in third place, two strokes behind Clancy, with the highlight of her day a hole-in-one at the 11th. Her state team-mate Annika Rathbone lies a shot back in fourth after a best-of-the-day 72.
Erina Tan (Mount Lawley) is the best-placed WA golfer in outright fifth at +3 for the championship after a rousing birdie-birdie finish kept her in the hunt for what would be a breakthrough title.

With a sunny final day expected on Wednesday, leader Roberts is hopeful she can capitalise on the excellent groundwork put in over the opening two days.
“If the course keeps playing the way it is, it’s going to be pretty tricky tomorrow, but I’ll be going in with the same plan and will see how I go,” she said.
“The weather has been pretty awful the last few days, so it will be nice to have a bit of sunshine tomorrow!”
The Bowra & O’Dea Women’s Classic also features concurrent 54-hole Mid Amateur and Senior Championships.
In the Mid-Am, Royal Perth’s Jane Kim is running away with things and holds a 14-stroke advantage over Melville Glades GC’s You-Ran Han after 36 holes.
It’s a much tighter contest in the Senior event, with Carmen Palframan leading Lake Karrinyup clubmate Janice Gaudet by one stroke with 18 holes to play.
