The latest round of the 2023 Crunch&Sip GolfWA Junior Tour attracted a record number of participants at Gosnells Golf Club at the weekend.
A total of 79 junior girls and boys aged between 5-12 teed up at the event, playing across a range of competitions including five- and nine-hole ‘Tiger Tees’ comps for the youngest players, and modified stroke play and Stableford events for more experienced players.
The Stableford prize was taken by Jeremy Tran, who collected 21 points from his nine holes. This left him a point clear of Chanelle Maxwell and Leann Yeoh. Allanya Engel, meanwhile, won the modified stroke event on a countback from LeBron Vaiimene after both tied on 53. Sean Robinson was third, four strokes back.
In the Tiger Tees divisions, Jonas Bobusic won the nine-hole category ahead of Cooper Welby and Sunny Needs, while Zoe Ray Del Val finished top in the five-hole event with Carly Park and Ashton Nel in hot pursuit.
Jordan McSkimming, GolfWA’s Junior Development Officer, was delighted at the event’s high attendance. “The Junior Tour is now firmly established as a series of events that offer the ideal introduction to competitive golf in a safe and fun environment. Hopefully we will smash further participation records as the season progresses,” he said.
Registration is already open for the next event on the Junior Tour schedule, which takes place at Nedlands Golf Club on Sunday, April 23. Register here.
