Primary Schools Championship

Almost 100 competitors braved biting conditions to participate in the School Sport WA Primary Schools Championship at Melville Glades GC.

With team and individual honours up for grabs, the event plays an important role in creating pathways into competitive golf, with some of the youngsters enjoying their first experience of tournament play.

Sixteen schools – including two travelling up from Bunbury – were represented in the event, which featured both Stableford and Modified Stroke categories, depending on players’ levels of experience.

All Saints’ College reigned supreme in the team Stableford comp, their pairing of Summer Oxwell and Allysha Lim combining to amass 35 points from nine holes. This left them three clear of Caladenia Primary’s Sean Sibo Wu and Zachary Sasidharan, with Atwell Primary duo Owen Spedding and Harry Squib third.

In Modified Stroke, Wesley College 3, represented by Tate Wincey, George Tan and Cara Sutherland came home with a combined total of 98 to pip Whitford Catholic Primary’s Max Beaton and Metta Guilfoyle-Black to top spot by a single stroke, with Edgewater Primary’s trio Dominic Smith, Eabha Cody and Nyah Cody taking third.

Eabha Cody (Edgewater Primary) and Max Beaton (Whitford Catholic Primary) claimed the respective girls’ and boys’ Modified Stroke titles for the Years 4-6 category, with Zoe Ray del Val (Kingsway Christian College) and Aston Evans (Piara Waters Primary) winning the equivalent titles in the Years 2-3 age group.
