Even with a world class field tackling the Grange Golf Club at the Australian Amateur, it was the weather that had the final say in a disrupted day one of qualifying.
Minjee Lee and Hannah Green left the course after the fourteenth hole with thunderstorms bringing the end to a day in which the temperature soared past 43 degrees.
Of the seventeen Western Australian in the field, it was Jayde Panos, returning home from college for a rare Australian appearance, the best placed of the West Aussies in a tie for fifth place at the end of the days play.
In the Men’s, Curtis Luck continued his great form from the Victorian Junior Masters to shoot a 1-under 71 to leave him in a tie for tenth.
The only other men currently in the top 64 qualifying positions for the matchplay rounds are Jarryd Felton, who shot a 1-over 73 to sit in a tie for 30th place, and Kiran Day, a shot further back in a tie for 45th.
Currently five Western Australian women are poised to secure a spot in the matchplay rounds with Panos (T5), Minjee Lee (T8), Alyssa Keir (T10), Hannah Green (T16) and Hira Naveed (T31) all sitting in the top 32.
