WA will have at least one representative in the Australian Amateur Semi Finals after Minjee Lee, Jayde Panos and Curtis Luck progressed through into the Quarter Finals today at the Grange Golf Club in Adelaide.
Lee and Panos will face each other in an all-WA Quarter Final while Curtis Luck will tackle fourth seed David Snyder of America.
It was an impressive day for Luck, who overcame two very strong opponents in Master of the Amateurs champion Simon Viitakangas and last year’s Australian Amateur finalist Geoff Drakeford.
Tomorrow’s clash against Jayde Panos will be Minjee Lee’s second straight against a Western Australian opponent, after defeating WA State Team teammate Hannah Green 5&4 in the Round of 16.
Panos prevailed in a close match against New South Wales Celena Yuan. With scores all square at the turn, Panos lifted on the back nine to to win 3&2.
In other matches, Alyssa Keir’s run came to an end against number 8 seed Karis Davidson of Queensland, while Tatiana Wijaya was unable to cause an upset against Victoria’s Su-Hyun Oh, falling 5&3.
In the teams event from the qualifying rounds, Western Australia was awarded the Ross Herbert National Teams trophy with the nominated team of Jarryd Felton, Curtis Luck, Hannah Green and Minjee Lee finishing nine strokes ahead of the second placed South Australian team. Western Australia’s score was even lower than that of the victorious Australian team in the International Team’s event.
