Northern clubs winning women’s hearts and minds

Exmouth Golf Club

Karratha Country Club and Exmouth Golf Club have both staged successful initiatives aimed at introducing more women to the sport.

In November, Exmouth GC conducted a ‘Golf & Giggles’ evening, which attracted 36 women, who competed in teams of four in a fun, three-hole Ambrose competition.

The game was planned and organised by the club’s women members and aligns to one of the goals in their Women in Golf Charter Action Plan.

Players were greeted with a glass of bubbles upon arrival and each group had one of Exmouth’s women members on hand to offer guidance and support on course. Snacks and prize-giving on the clubhouse verandah wrapped up a very successful evening.

The event proved to be a smash hit with participating players, with one of those, Lauren McGann (pictured above in the sunflower shirt), describing the experience as “epic”.

“It was so well run, way more fun than we thought and we are all interested in coming back to play and be part of that again,” she said. “Having the members on course with us made us feel supported and improved our game, which was so rewarding. It was a total vibe.”

Karratha Country Club, meanwhile, have been utilising the services of PGA pro Rob Farley throughout the year, whose regular three-day visits to the club for individual and group coaching sessions have been extremely popular.

Amongst the biggest successes of the year have been the ‘Ladies Whack and Wine’ sessions, which have taken place for two hours on Thursday or Friday afternoon and routinely attracted up to 20 participants.

The Thursday session is conducted on course, while the Friday session is initially spent on the driving range, then some chipping and putting. Each concludes at the clubhouse with participants enjoying a glass of vino and some nibbles.

Both the initiatives have been so well received that they are already locked in for 2025.
