Katanning’s Karan Murray captured the Britannia Cup as the overall net champion at the GolfWA Regional Seniors event at Dunsborough and Districts Country Club.
Karan (pictured above) achieved a 36-hole Stableford total of 72 points to top the field, three points clear of Denice Nock (Bridgetown GC) with Bev Moxham of Gingin GC two points further adrift.
In total, 168 ladies came to compete from around the state to compete on the rolling hills of Dunsborough and there were plenty of other winners at the two-day, two-field event, including prizes in veteran (70-74 years) and super veteran (75+ years) categories.
The field was greeted by two crisp, cool days that could be considered perfect golf weather. Hard fairways gave plenty of run, while they had to contend with the trick and skill of putting on sand greens.
A celebratory Thursday night dinner was also laid on, providing plenty of fun for all with the ‘Rocking Rainbows’ theme giving license for creativity and colour.
The PM/AM field was the first to finish on Friday, with a high tea put on by the club while presentations went on. The winners for the 36 holes were as follows: –
- Sand Green Winner – Veronica Fuller (Waroona)
- Grass Green Winner – Shiralee McRae (Collier Park Sund’y Niners)
- Super Veterans – Therese Clarke (Pinjarra)
- Veterans – Wendy Cousins (Dandaragan)
- Overall – Vanetha Lam (Royal Fremantle)
The AM/PM field was the second to finish with the ladies sticking around for an afternoon tea. The winners for the 36 holes were as follows: –
- Sand Green Winner – Bev Moxham (Gingin)
- Grass Green Winner – Margaret Middleton (Denmark)
- Super Veterans – Daphne Nicholas (Mandurah)
- Veterans – Shirley Smyth (Northam)
- Overall – Karan Murray (Katanning)
- Britannia Cup for Overall Net Champion – Karan Murray (Katanning)
Congratulations to all the winners and to all participants for making it such a great event. Thanks to all at Dunsborough and Districts Country Club for the hospitality over the two days and in particular to all the volunteers that helped with food, carts, course setup and scraping greens.
