Fremantle Public Golf Course upgrades

The City of Fremantle has recommended conditional planning approval be granted for upgrade works at Fremantle Public Golf Course.

First proposed by course operator Belgravia Leisure in late 2023, an updated plan for the $19m redevelopment was approved by the City Council in the past week.

The amendments to the plan largely focused on addressing community feedback, including a desire to preserve existing trees when creating additional car parking space, and that pedestrian paths be more defined.

As well as upgraded food and beverage facilities, a pro shop and changing facilities, the centrepiece of the proposals remains a two-storey, 40-bay driving range.

The range will offer ball-tracking and monitoring technology in every bay, as well as interactive, entertainment-based gameplay in which golfers aim for large, colourful targets.

Range operators LaunchPad Golf have proposed opening hours of 7am-11pm on Sunday-Wednesday and 7am-midnight from Thursday-Saturday. The proposals are currently awaiting approval from the WA Planning Commission, with hopes work can be complete by 2026.

The City of Fremantle is contributing $3.2m of grant funding to the project, which will continue to offer its nine-hole layout and 10-bay driving range throughout construction should it go ahead.

Belgravia Leisure also operates Marangaroo and Carramar public golf courses, where plans for enhanced clubhouse and practice facilities were recently given the greenlight by the City of Wanneroo.

In addition, Hamersley Public Golf Course recently reopened its enhanced pavilion and driving range, while golf entertainment venue Outta Bounds also opened its doors in December.
