Harvey Golf Club’s Michael Lucas is in first class form, leading by an astonishing nine strokes approaching the final round of the 2021 WA Senior Amateur Championship at Gosnells Golf Club. Lucas carded an impressive 68 for the second day running in this prestigious event on the golfing calendar. With four birdies in his front nine today, clearly an early start and hot conditions suit this local West Aussie.
“I had to pinch myself after that first nine today. It has been too long ago to even remember the last time I ever had a start like that,” shared Lucas. Fifty eight year old Lucas is competing in his third WA Senior Championship. He narrowly missed out on a win last year, losing on a final playoff hole in pouring rain at WAGC. “I just try and get out there and treat every game the same and play my best golf, however there are definitely some nerves involved. I haven’t found myself in this sort of position very often before, so tomorrow will be about using my mental strength and making sure I have the right personal attitude. The course will be here again tomorrow, I just hope my mind will be in the right space and look at each hole shot by shot.”
The 2021 Senior Amateur Women’s leaderboard is neck and neck with Lake Karrinyup buddies Carmen Palframan and Peta Roberts leading the pack by a clear nine strokes. Approaching their eighth competition stroke round in ten days these ladies show consistency and desire to succeed at a level second to none. Following her win at the Bowra & O’Dea 54 Hole Senior Classic last week, Carmen shared, “it will be a survival of the fittest to get through WA Senior Amateur at Gosnells Golf Club following this tournament.” Approaching the final round tomorrow, we wish you all the best in the final leg of your golfing marathon ladies. You would run rings around those juniors with the mental strength and consistency shown this week!
Over one hundred men and women will brave hot conditions tomorrow for the final round of the 54 hole 2021 Senior Amateur title at Gosnells Golf Club. Competitors from all over Australia have enjoyed the hospitality, first class course and golfing experience offered by host club Gosnells. Spectators are warmly welcomed to enjoy the finals tomorrow.
