Karratha mine worker Royce Castano has made it into the record books after playing the highest number of virtual golf holes in a 24-hour period.
Castano powered through 720 holes in just 22 hours at Karratha Indoor Golf to smash the previous world’s best of 702 holes, which was set in Illinois last year.
Although his Herculean effort was completed in March, Castano’s record was only confirmed last week after Guinness World Records ratified evidence compiled by local volunteers on the day.
“Swinging a golf club over 3,000 times has kind of broken me a little bit,” Castano told ABC Pilbara at the conclusion of his record attempt.
“”It was bit of an eye opener for me on this one, like I didn’t expect my body to be as sore during it as it was. I lost two kilos just from sweating so much.”
Despite the short-term aches and pains, Castano hasn’t ruled out an attempt to better his own record next year, adding: “There is a possibility of trying for 750 holes next year. I mean, I did 720 in 22 hours, so there’s another two hours there.”
As well as local supporters logging every hole he played, Castano’s record bid was live-streamed to a global audience, helping him raise more than $7,000 for the Royal Flying Doctor Service in the process.

Tamika Jones, Managing Director of Karratha Indoor Golf, said their whole team couldn’t have been happier to support Castano’s record attempt.
“We were 100% on board with Royce’s decision to take on the world record,” she told GolfWA. “Not only do we love being part of competitive sports but supporting the Royal Flying Doctors at the same time ticked all the boxes for our business values.
“Royce was also the very first member to join Karratha Indoor Golf when we opened the doors and he has always supported our business in a positive way. We are more than stoked that he broke the record.”
