Juniors set to dominate south-west

11th Jul 2021

The second week of the school holidays is an exciting one for WA Junior golfers, who will travel from all over the state to compete in the world ranking 54 hole competition in the South West. The Drummond Golf Junior Classic will be played over three days on three different courses, Capel, Dunsborough Lakes and Busselton, commencing on Wednesday 13th July.

Fifty seven juniors will compete for this prestigious title which will run alongside the South West Crunch & Sip Classic which will offer a modified stroke and tiger tee format for youngsters learning the ropes.

The juniors will be itching to join the likes of Min Woo Lee, Hannah Green and Curtis Luck on the prestigious trophy. Mount Lawley’s Joe Buttress will be back chasing his second title after a win in 2019. Joe is currently on form snapping up the Gosnells Junior Open last week, but will have a tough fight ahead with some hungry contenders such as Josiah Gilbert, who has also been top of the podium of late.

Lake Karrinyup’s Sheridan Clancy is a standout favourite for the girls, however after just emerging from a two week quarantine period it will be interesting to see how she has maintained her form. Jorja Hinson Tolchard was successful in the playoff against Valerie Khuu to snap up the Cobra Puma Junior win last week. Both girls will be chasing a win and maintaining patience and form through the 54 holes will be a challenge.

Although the weather is predicted to be challenging, the youngsters are well versed on wet weather tactics after last weeks string of competitions in the wild wind at Cottesloe, Gosnells and Sun City.

Spectators are warmly welcomed to enjoy the club facilities and support the juniors in the south west. A gentle reminder that caddies and coaching is not permitted at this world ranking event, however parents are welcome to volunteer as Marshalls for our Crunch and Sip modified stroke and tiger tee categories.

The draw for the Capel and Dunsborough rounds are available on the link below, with a seeded draw for a 8.00am shotgun start at Busselton Golf Club on Friday available after 3pm on Thursday.

Best of luck to all the Juniors competing next week. Our thanks to sponsors Drummond Golf, and host clubs Capel, Dunsborough Lakes and Busselton for making your courses available during the busy school holiday period.
