Joondalup has secured back-to-back Junior Pennant Division One titles after a dramatic final round at Lake Karrinyup on Sunday.
In a tense day, Joondalup and Royal Fremantle went into the final round equal on points, with both requiring victories to have any chance of winning the crown.
Joondalup once again proved too strong when it mattered.
Royal Fremantle faced Royal Perth in their do-or-die clash and could only manage a 4-3 victory against a spirited side. Chris Mun was too strong for Zane Lewis and Aiden Hassan defeated Jake Anderson to all but end Royal Fremantle’s chances of a premiership.
Joondalup was an entirely different story with young gun Josh Greer steering his side to their second consecutive title after a 6-1 win over Mount Lawley.
Joondalup’s top six seeds all secured dominant wins to push their total match wins past Royal Fremantle, gifting them the Boys’ Pennant flag.
Tom Botica was a 3&2 winner in his final Junior Pennant fixture for Joondalup, while Carter Mealing and Tom Addy were too good for their opposition.
Lucas Paddick also enjoyed a win in his final fixture for his beloved club, winning 4&2 in his respective match play.
Similar to last season, Joondalup had a short putt to secure the title, with Greer stepping up to nail the winner in fantastic scenes at Lake Karrinyup.
“It feels pretty good to get it done, we were behind last year as well,” Greer said.
“Really good feeling to come back and win. Think it was the exact same situation going into the last game.”
Greer credits the two titles to the togetherness of the group, with all the players loving being involved in the Junior Pennant competition.
“We are all good mates to be honest,” he mentioned.
“We all really like each other and get on well as a team. Everything we do we do it together.”
The Joondalup prodigy believed that every player pulled their weight this year, with the team only getting stronger in the years to come.
“I feel like all the boys deserve it. It was all there doing,” he said.
“We are losing a couple this year but we will still be very strong next year, everyone will keep improving.”
The Girls’ Junior Pennant wasn’t without its drama either, with thunderstorms and rain causing their final round to be cancelled in Kwinana.
The result meant that Gosnells secured the Division One crown over both Mount Lawley sides, with the standings remaining the same from the previous round.
Led by Madison Hinson-Tolchard, Gosnells finished just one game ahead of the Mount Lawley Devils to claim the title.
Joondalup/Sun City were the other beneficiaries of the weather, winning the Girls’ Division Two title ahead of Melville Glades/South West at Kwinana.
The Vines claimed the Division Two Boys’ Title at Joondalup Country Club, finishing one point ahead of Melville Glades. The side continues to improve each year after winning Division Four last season.
Western Australian Golf Club had already secured their title in Boys’ Division Three last week and finished off halving with Sea View/ Melville Glades.
Gosnells were dominant in Boys’ Division Four finishing three points clear of nearest rivals Royal Perth at Melville Glades Golf Club on Sunday.
