It isn’t every day that you get to walk alongside professional golfers during a European Tour event; however that is exactly what Shaun Matthews was able to achieve over the weekend.
Shaun was one of the two winners of Golf WA’s ‘Inside the Ropes’ competition that offered a “money can’t buy” opportunity for you and a friend to spend a day following some of the world’s best players up close and personal.
The prize not only included walking 18 holes with a group, but also allowed the winners to relax in the West Cape Howe Wines Terrace post the end of the round.
Matthews was amazed throughout his exciting day on Lake Karrinyup, delving into how players go about each hole.
“It’s been amazing,” Matthews said.
“It was really good to just hear how they took on the hole and their strategies around why they did it.”
The local golfer couldn’t believe some of the talent that was on display, as he and his father followed Marcus Fraser and former Vic Open winner Dimitrios Papadatos.
“When they draw the ball, it’s not a 10-yard draw it’s a three-yard draw,” he mentioned.
“You just see how far they do hit the ball. The distance and precision is good to watch.”
“As a hacker if it goes forward we are happy.”
Matthews had previously played on the Lake Karrinyup turf; however he couldn’t believe the preparation that had gone into the course for the world-class event.
“We’ve played a few times before in competition and it’s a great course, it’s fantastic,” they claimed.
Walking inside the ropes is something both men won’t forget anytime soon, with the added bonus of some corporate hospitality finishing their day off nicely.
“It is a bit of a change, normally when we do play we are egging each other on,” they said.
“Saying get this putt in and I will buy you a drink.”
“We are looking forward to watching from the stands.”
The second set of best entries won a pass for two people, including food & beverage, to the Super Suite on Saturday February 10, valued at $590 each.
The third set of three best entries won two General Admission season passes valued at $198 each.
