Royal Fremantle have made a remarkable start to Senior Men’s Pennants season with three of their players scoring holes-in-one in consecutive weeks.
Competing in the 4BBB South Red group alongside Gosnells, Links Kennedy Bay and Mandurah, Royal Fremantle’s unbeaten start to the season was helped in no small measure by the aces achieved by David Smith, Terry Green and Nick Woodley.
Thirteen-handicapper Smith got the ball rolling for the RFGC, holing out at the 17th hole at his home club in Round 1 in the clash against Gosnells. And although Smith and playing partner John Boufler only halved their match, the team romped to a 4-1 victory.
Green, playing off 15, was the next Freo stalwart to get in on the action with an ace in the reverse fixture at Gosnells GC a week later. Playing alongside Paul Drackford, Green holed his tee shot on the 14th hole en route to a 5&4 win.
The incredible run continued in Round 3 this week, with Woodley (pictured top) completing the team hat-trick with a hole-in-one of his own in Royal Fremantle’s home tie against Mandurah Country Club.
The six-handicapper aced the 8th hole as he and Barry Judge closed out a 5&3 win in a match that RFGC secured a 5-0 clean sweep.
With a match against Links Kennedy Bay next up in Round 4, all eyes will be on Royal Fremantle to see whether the hole-in-one hot streak can continue…
