What is your golfing timetable on an average week?
I try to get down to my local course every other night after school. I prefer to play holes rather than hit balls on the range. If I can’t get down to the course because of homework, etc. I have a golf net and a putting green in my backyard, so I can keep my ‘feels’.
What is the best aspect of your game and how did you get so good at it?
I am not the biggest 15-year-old, so I have never been able to muscle my way around a golf course. This means that I have always needed to rely on my short game to score and compete. I practise my chipping a lot out of different lies and I always try to be creative when chipping.
What’s the best advice you would give to a junior golfer just starting out in the game?
Always try and have someone else to practise with, because you can set up competitions, and push each other to hit your very best shots.
What do you consider your best achievement in golf so far, and why?
Winning the WA Men’s Amateur and the Men’s City of Perth back-to-back in 2023. I had to progress through a lot of rounds to win and there were a lot of really good players in the fields of both events.
Why would you recommend young golfers get into competitive golf as early as they can?
Playing tournaments as early as possible, such as the GolfWA Crunch&Sip Junior Tour, is really good for game development. It normalises competition and shapes you into a golfer who can play a lot of different courses well. I played my first Crunch&Sip tournament when I was seven years old and played regularly on the tour for the next 3-4 years.
What is your ultimate golfing ambition?
To become the number 1 player in the world and to win the Career Grand Slam of The Masters, US Open, US PGA and The Open Championship.
Which golf event would you most like to win?
The Open Championship, because it is the oldest major and is so steeped in history. I have a lot of family in the UK, so it would be extra special to win this tournament.
What’s the best course you’ve ever played, and where would you most like to play?
Royal Portrush, a historic links course in Northern Ireland, is the best – a really great experience. I would love to play TPC Scottsdale, which hosts the Phoenix Open on the PGA Tour each year. The crowds are wild!
Favourite golfers?
Rory McIlroy, because I grew up watching him take out a lot of tournaments. he’s a great inspiration. And Annika Sorenstam, whose short game was unreal.
