The inaugural ‘Dads in the Rough’ golf event for first-time fathers got off to a very positive start at Collier Park at the weekend.
Collier Park’s mini golf course was chosen as the host venue in order to make the event as accessible and relaxing as possible. The idea worked, with a crowd of 25 dads and their family members attending – including at least one infant in their dad’s chest-mounted baby harness!
The aim of Dads in the Rough is to offer new fathers the opportunity to get together, have fun and grow a valuable support network during a time that can be challenging and disconcerting. Aaron Lee, the founder of Dads in the Rough and a recent first-time father himself, was delighted with the success of the program’s first gathering.
“We got off to a great start,” he said. “It was nice to see so many dads, mums and children having fun on the mini golf course – and to see some of the dads swapping contact details. Many new friends were made, and that’s what it’s all about.”
The next step for Dads in the Rough will be to arrange regular nine-hole social events with the hope of growing the group and introducing non-golfers to the game. If you’re after regular updates, Dads in the Rough is active on Facebook and Instagram.
