Golf clinics energise Wheatbelt communities

Moora was a hotbed of golfing activity in June, with four weeks of clinics and instruction delivered by visiting PGA professional Rob Farley.

As well as staging MyGolf sessions at both Moora Primary School and Central Midland Senior High School, Farley also oversaw several ‘Come & Try’ beginners’ clinics for both adults and juniors at Moora Lake View Golf Club.

Just as importantly, Farley delivered a practical workshop for accredited Community Instructors (CIs), which involved participants from Moora, Dandaragan and Miling.

The workshops play an essential role in upskilling existing CIs to better provide for the needs of beginner golfers in their communities. Participant Taryn Harris, a teacher from Moora Primary School, said it was hugely beneficial.

“Although we earn our CI accreditation online, it’s so useful to work with Rob in person,” Taryn told GolfWA.

“As well as reinforcing what we have previously learned, he shows us other coaching techniques and explains common errors or misconceptions. We all felt much more informed and confident after the session.”

Rob’s beginners’ coaching sessions at Moora Lake View GC proved just as popular and were hailed as a great success by the club’s Ladies Vice Captain Jeannie McCaffrey.

“All’s Rob’s sessions were very well attended and well received by kids and adults alike,” she said. “The whole experience was so worthwhile and provided the club with a great opportunity to grow its membership.”

The coaching was made possible with funding received from the WA Golf Foundation, Sporting Schools and a Regional Servicing Grant from the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries.
