Lake View Dumbleyung Golf Club has received funding for a scholarship program to help girls maximise their golfing potential.
The Australian Golf Foundation Junior Girls Scholarship Program aims to retain girls in golf for the long-haul, as well as offering pathways into the sport for beginners.
Ten golf clubs in WA received funding following the last round of applications, with Wheatbelt-based Lake View Dumbleyung GC the only remote, rural club amongst them.
Participants receive coaching, junior club membership for one year and a Golf Australia (GA) handicap, as well as the opportunity to widen their social circles with like-minded girls.
This year’s scholarships were awarded to Amelia Jose, Ellie Clavey, Kelsie Smith, Eloise Bartram, Vera Smith, Maggie McDougall, Layla Smith, Chloe Gooding, Phoebe Bairstow and Emmy Jefferis, all of whom are students at Dumbleyung Primary School.
The scholarship program will be delivered by regional golf champion and accredited National Program Deliverer Megan Henry, who says it offers the girls an incredible opportunity.
“The girls at the Dumbleyung Primary School have participated in MyGolf Schools coaching with me in the past two years, and this AGF golf scholarship is the next step to keep them hitting with fun,” she said.
“It’s a fantastic initiative. Not only will our girls receive golf coaching in Terms 2 and 3, but they also receive a one-year junior club membership that carries playing rights, which ensures they can participate in club competitions and obtain a handicap.”
The next round of applications opens later this year. Find out more details about the scholarship program here.
