Jarryd Felton has won his second national ranking tournament in as many weeks, taking out the Tasmanian Open in Launceston yesterday.
Holding a single stroke lead into the final round, Felton’s 73 was enough to remain ahead of his closest rival, Kade McBride, finishing at 9-under par to win by two strokes.
Felton’s tournament was highlighted by back to back rounds of 66 on the Friday and Saturday, after finishing outside the top five on the opening day.
Felton’s World Amateur Golf Ranking is a certain to recieve a major boost once rankings are updated later this week. With rankings revised fortnightly, Felton’s wins at the NSW Amateur and the Tasmanian Open are likely to move Felton from 53rd in the world into the top 50, where he will then be able to earn starts at many major interntaional events, such as the 2014 US Amateur.
Mount Lawley’s Hannah Green fell agonisingly close to picking up her first win of the year at the Elvie Whitesides. Green lead into the final round, but was overtaken by NSW’s Elizabeth Elmassian, who shot a final round of 70 to take the title from Green by a stroke.
