It was a case of ‘seeing double’ over the weekend after Katanning sisters Fiona and Louise McCarley successfully blasted their way around Brookton Golf Course at the Women’s Provincial Tournament.
The pair finished one and two in the Provincial Cup final standings, with Louise proving more consistent to take out the title with the best overall gross score, as well as the Adele Ludemann Trophy for best gross score by a sand greens player.
Scores of 77 and 75 meant she was the runaway winner at the annual tournament, finishing 12 strokes ahead of her sibling.
In a competition full of excitement and enjoyment, Di Smith and Robyn Woods finished on the same score as second-placed Fiona McCarley, with a countback taking place to decided second, third and fourth.
With plenty of perpetual trophies up for grabs there were plenty of winners – with glorious conditions treating the ladies to a phenomenal three days of golf.
Beverley duo Yvonne Hobbs and Maxine Watts claimed the Eileen Dawson Shield for the two best nett scores from the same club on day one, the pair finishing with a total of 135, two shots clear of Harvey’s Pam Davey and Grace Zabajinik.
The battle of City v Country resumed for another year with the latter taking out the teams event for the best five scores on day one. Country’s dominance of the award continued with Davey (Harvey), Kelly Fulwood (Brookton), Tania Turner (Miling), Joy Hamilton (Bolgart) and Linett Clarke (Southern Cross) all contributing to the victory.
Turner from Miling also took out the best nett for 36 holes, carding a 67 and 68 for a total of 5 under nett.
In a show of generosity from all the ladies, the annual ‘Provincial Dress’ raised over $1500 for the Royal Flying Doctor, taking the total tally of monies raised to over $25,000.
