Perth’s Hannah Green held her nerve to win a sudden death play-off and claim her third LPGA Tour title at the JM Eagle LA Championship.
Mount Lawley ace Green was in contention throughout the tournament after a three-under-par 68 in her opening round. She was consistency personified throughout the week at Wilshire Country Club, firing three subsequent rounds of 69 to finish her 72 holes in a three-way tie for 1st alongside India’s Aditi Ashok and China’s overnight leader Xiyu Lin at -9.
Ashok dropped out at the first playoff hole, but Green moved into pole position when she hit the green at the par-three second playoff hole and Lin found a pot bunker. Lin failed to get up and down, leaving Green with a routine two-putt par to wrap up the title and the US$450,000 top prize.
The win was 26-year-old Green’s third on the LPGA Tour and her first since her breakthrough season of 2019 when she won two events – including a Major at the Women’s PGA Championship.
Speaking greenside immediately after sealing victory, a visibly emotional Green said: “It’s been a long few years. I played really well last year but getting over the line has been difficult. I’m really proud of myself for hanging in there.”
Minjee Lee also played all four rounds at Wilshire Country Club, finishing in T44th at +1 for the championship and earning US$11,759. You can view the final leaderboard here.
