Day and night All Abilities golf fun at Geraldton GC

11th Apr 2025

Geraldton Golf Club has rolled out the red carpet to lay on some great experiences for All Abilities golfers – before and after dark.

Thanks to a Regional Servicing Grant from the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries (DLGSC), the club has just staged the first of 10 planned instructional sessions for members of ATLAS in 2025.

ATLAS (Access To Leisure And Sport Inc.) is a public benevolent institution committed to increasing people with disabilities’ access and inclusion in the Mid-West community.

Their participants have attended All Abilities golf sessions at Geraldton GC since 2022, with head professional Daniel Bennett delivering the instruction.

These daytime sessions are always popular but ATLAS participants and their leisure buddies were also treated to a unique after-dark extravaganza this month after expressing interest in Geraldton GC’s innovative night golf initiative.

The club’s first All Abilities night session featured three mini golf holes set up on the practice green, as well as two holes of night golf on the course itself.

The activity was a big hit with the 30 participants, who thoroughly enjoyed the golf activities and the follow-up pizza dinner in the clubhouse.

Participant Sharnee was particularly enthused by the experience. “I want more night golf, it was gold,” she said. “It was a total twinkle fest and the pizza I tried was nom-tastic!”

Fellow attendee Lachlan added: “The experience was awesome! I love getting to interact and enjoy activities with people, which is why I come to events like this.

“Communicating with others and getting to be social in person and make connections was amazing.”

ATLAS’s Recreation Inclusion Officer, Kate Van Niftrick, was full of praise for the club’s efforts to provide memorable golfing experiences for the All Abilities community.

“A huge shoutout to the team at Geraldton Golf Club for accommodating the needs of ATLAS participants and creating such fantastic, out-of-the-ordinary opportunities in our small town,” she told GolfWA.

“It was an incredible night and the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, with everyone eager to know when the next event is.”

Fortunately, the wait shouldn’t be too long, with the club confirming they have already factored in three more night sessions for the ATLAS crew later in the year.
