Regional Roadshow Karratha

More than 750 schoolchildren were given an introduction to golf during the latest Crunch&Sip Regional Roadshow to Karratha.

Students from St Pauls, Tambrey, Pegs Creek and Millars Well primary schools received instruction on the basics of the game by GolfWA’s Jordan McSkimming and Jack Retallack, while PGA pro Rob Farley also delivered a number of free ‘Come & Try’ clinics for juniors and adults at Karratha Country Club.

“We were very well received at the schools and it was awesome to see so many kids who hadn’t tried golf before give it a go and pick it up so quickly,” said McSkimming, GolfWA’s Junior Development Officer.

“Plenty of the students signed up for the free clinics with Rob Farley, too, and we hope this will be the start of a life-long affiliation with the sport.”

In addition to the school visits, 48 adults and juniors also attended three fully subscribed ‘Come & Try’ beginners’ clinics, with all participants provided with information on how to continue their journeys in golf, whether that be further lessons, social golf or even membership at Karratha Country Club.

Marc Pike, GolfWA’s Game Development & High Performance Manager, hailed the positive impact the roadshows can have on regional communities – especially at primary school level.

“The Crunch&Sip Regional Roadshows give us a great opportunity to share and promote golf, along with healthy habits, such as sipping water over sugary drinks and crunching on an extra serve of vegetables each day to boost concentration and energy levels,” he said.

“Thanks to the ongoing support we receive from Healthway, we’ve been able to share this messaging and offer physical activity opportunities through golf to over 3,000 regional school students a year – a figure we are looking to increase further in 2025.”

The Karratha visit was the third Crunch&Sip Regional Roadshow of 2024, with two more planned in Busselton and Bunbury later in the year.
