Former Chairman Max Hannah has been awarded Life Membership to GolfWA after last night’s Annual General Meeting at Royal Perth Golf Club, with his significant impact on Club, State and Australian golf over 40 years unequivocally rewarded.

Hannah has remained at the forefront of golf in Western Australia for decades, being elected the inaugural Chair of GolfWA in March 2011, a position he held until he retired at the 2017 Annual General Meeting.

Hannah also played a lead role with Dianne Tomlin in finalising the successful amalgamation of the men’s and women’s State Associations in 2011. This will forever be one of Max’s greatest contributions to golf in this state.

Max joined his beloved Melville Glades Golf Club in 1973, whilst also being a member at Royal Perth and several Victorian Golf Clubs.

He is a Life Member of the Australian Golf Foundation and a member of the Golf Society of Australia.

Hannah’s commitment and leadership also led to serving as a State Selector as well as managing the WA State Schoolboys Team in 1981. This progressed to the WA Junior Team, where he managed for the three years following, with the side claiming the National title in 1984.

In the same year, Hannah was appointed to the position of National Director of Coaching at the Australian Golf Union, living in Melbourne until 1986.

Upon his return to Perth, he was again elected to the WA Golf Association’s Executive Committee, serving as the Vice President for three years, managing the WA Colts Team for two years, before being elected as the last President of the WAGA in 2010.

Hannah’s monumental contribution to golf will forever be remembered, with the amalgamation shaping golf in this state for future generations.
