Another of WA’s leading amateurs – Adam Brady – has announced his decision to turn professional ahead of teeing it up in this week’s Northern Territory PGA Championship.
Brady, a member at The Vines Golf & Country Club, earned PGA Tour of Australasia membership status after reaching the final stage of Qualifying School in April. After several months of fine-tuning his game in Europe, the 21-year-old decided that the time was right to make the jump into the pro ranks.
“I’m not fully exempt on the Aus PGA Tour, but I will get opportunities in a lot of events,” he told GolfWA. “I hope to use those opportunities to climb the rankings and improve my game in the coming year.
“I’ve played quite a few Aus PGA events in the past couple of years and I’ve always felt I could compete with the professionals. I know that if I work hard, my game is good enough.”
Brady has been part of the GolfWA High Performance Program for some years and represented the state at junior level on multiple occasions. He believes those experiences will hold him in good stead and says he’s leaving the amateur game with a raft of good memories.
“Some of my best memories in golf are just playing the junior events in and around Perth,” he said. “Events like the Drummond Golf 54-Hole Classic and the junior interstate matches were just so much fun to be a part of.
“I love playing golf. I was committed to turning pro from a pretty young age and have never lost my passion for the game. I’ve had a lot of great experiences in my amateur career but as a professional, I’m most looking forward to learning and just trying to get better every day.”
Brady will make his pro debut at this week’s Tailor-made Building Services NT PGA Championship in Darwin, alongside fellow WA rookie Josh Greer, who has also just announced his decision to turn pro.
As well as playing on the PGA Tour of Australasia, Brady will attempt to earn playing rights on the DP World Tour and Asian Tour in the coming months.
