Congratulations Sheridan Clancy and Josiah Gilbert, overall winners of the 2021 Drummond Golf Junior Amateur State Championship titles. Over sixty juniors battled out the 36-hole competition at Mandurah Country Club in near perfect conditions, with many Dad’s green side enjoying their Father’s Day watching some stellar golfing talent.
Lake Karrinyup’s Clancy, and Gosnell’s Gilbert add this title to a string of wins throughout the 2021 Junior Season. Clancy took home the State trophy with two solid rounds of 74, giving her a strong four stroke overall lead over Joondalup’s Amie Phobubpa and Celine Chen.
Gilbert started the second round trailing Joondalup’s Aldrich Potgieter by eight strokes. Potgieter had the round of the tournament, carding an impressive 67 in his first eighteen, but couldn’t keep the pace on. Gilbert charged in the second round, narrowly securing the lead by one stroke over Potgieter and Royal Fremantle’s Alex Maxwell.
Gosnells, Joondalup and Mount Lawley all showed an impressive presence on the final podium, a testament to some tremendous junior talent coming through the clubs.
Mount Lawley junior, Ruby Cotton took home the Kay Lane trophy for Girl’s overall nett champion, alongside Bunbury’s Bailey Hampson, securing the Boy’s Overall Nett trophy. It was wonderful to see some new faces in the competition this year, with Gosnell’s youngster Heather Ong winning the girls Sub- Junior category. Heather’s proud as punch Dad couldn’t have been smiling more. “Best Father’s Day gift – thank you. Great to see all the effort paying off – we have never won anything I am so proud!”
Gosnell’s Josiah Edwards narrowly pipped Mount Lawley’s Ollie Marsh on a count back to win the Sub-Junior title (14 & under). Congratulations to all who participated in the 36-hole Drummond Golf Junior Amateur yesterday, and our thanks to Mandurah Country Club for generously hosting the event enjoyed by all.
