WA State Squad members Celine Chen and Joseph Buttress produced the goods to clinch the prestigious Nedlands Junior Masters titles over the long weekend.
The 42nd playing of the Nedlands Junior Masters attracted a high-calibre field of 50 boys and 28 girls from across the state to Nedlands Golf Club. In the girls’ event, Joondalup’s Chen fired a level-par opening round of 74, which she followed up with a 76 to finish at +2 for the tournament, four shots clear of club-mate Mia Lawson.
WAGC member Buttress, meanwhile, fired back-to-back rounds of 69 to post a winning total of -6 and consign defending champion George Barclay (Joondalup CC) to second place, four shots adrift.
Their Nedlands titles earmark both Chen and Buttress as players to watch at the forthcoming Amateur Championships of WA, which take place at Royal Fremantle from March 15-19. Chen is the defending champion in the women’s event, while Buttress will be looking to go deep after an early elimination in the match play rounds last year.
