WA’s Josiah Edwards recorded the most significant win of his career to date at the Jack Newton International Junior Classic in NSW.

In contention throughout the week at the 72-hole stroke play championship, the 17-year-old Gosnells member saved the best for last as he blitzed around Cypress Lakes Golf & Country Club in just 66 strokes on the final day.

His best-of-the-day, six-under-par round catapulted Edwards to the top of the leaderboard at -9 for the championship. It was a score that proved just too good for the opposition, leaving Edwards a two-stroke victor ahead of Alfie Ward (QLD) and Kiwi Ryan Xie.

“This was my last year (playing in this competition), so all I wanted to do was win,” Edwards said .”It’s the best feeling. I don’t know how to explain it. Definitely at the top (of my career achievements) right now.”

It was also a good week for Joondalup Country Club’s Nate Johnson, who finished T6th overall at -3 for the championship and claimed the 15-and-under age group title. Elsewhere, Royal Perth’s Spencer Harrison finished T18th, with Declan Pereira (The Vines) T26th.
