There wasn’t enough rain in the sky to stop the kids from taking part in the 2022 School Sport WA Primary School Championships yesterday at the Mandurah Country Club.
Isabella and Alexander Day from Assumption Catholic College took out the stableford teams event with an impressive combined score of 35. Kingsway Christian College came in second with a score of 32, whilst Clifton Park Primary School followed closely in third with a score of 31.
In the modified stroke competition, Crunch&Sip Junior Tour regulars Harry Squibb and Owen Spedding from Atwell Primary School took first place, as the two did last year. Evan and Eamon Soo from Brentwood Primary won second place, followed by Connor and Greta Huberli from Charthouse Primary.
In the individual results, Halia Edwards (Aspiri Primary School) and Brianna Chueakrungthep (Bannister Creek Primary School) finished on top of the Girls’ stableford event with a score of 20. Alexander Day, Isaac Low (Bletchley Park Primary Schoool) and Austen Marsh (Kingsway Christian College) finished with a score of 18 to top the Boys’ individual stableford event.
Allayna Engel (Honeywood Primary School) won the Girls’ Year 4-6 individual modified stroke competition with a score of 50, we’ve seen how well Allayna can drive the ball, following her opportunity to hit the opening tee shot at the 97th WA Open earlier this year. Clara Ascoli (Willetton Primary School) and Jenna Phoon (Applecross Primary School) closely followed with scores of 55 and 56 respectively. Meanwhile the Girls’ Year 2-3 individual modified stroke was won by Ashleigh Yeah from Perth Waldorf School.
In the Boys’ Year 4-6 individual modified stroke, Minh Bressan Nguyen (Applecross Primary School) finished with a score of 48. He was closely followed by Teddy Stewart (Alkimos Beach Primary) and Eamon Soo (Brentwood Primary School) finished with 51 and 52 respectively. Harry Squibb finished ahead of Murray Smith (Peter Moyes ACS) and Owen Spedding to take the Boys’ Year 2-3 division.
This year’s Primary School Championship had the largest number of kids involved in the history of the event and we’re looking forward to next year and increasing that number once again.
