Royal Fremantle amateur Minjee Lee has continued to be a force to be reckoned with on the professional circuit, firing an opening round of 68 to sit in a tie for sixth at the ISPS Handa Australian Open at Victoria Golf Club.
Lee wasn’t bothered by the star studded field that features five of the world’s top ten golfers, as the World Number 3 Amateur mixed it with the professionals with five birdies in her round.
Lee is two shots behind World Number 2 Suzann Pettersen of Norway. Pettersen has the World Number 1 ranking in her sights and could be there by the end of the weekend providing she finishes in the top two.
Alongside NSW’s Sarah Jane Smith, Lee is the best placed of the Australians. Karrie Webb and WA’s Jessica Speechley are five shots off the pace at 1-under, while Western Australia’s Kristie Smith (1-over) and Whitney Hillier (3-over) had difficult opening rounds.
