Women's Country Week Silver Bronze

Lisa Wake and Jane Dudley were the big winners at Drummond Golf Women’s Country Week, taking home the respective Silver and Bronze Championship titles.

Around 130 women competed in the concurrent championships, hosted by The Vines Golf & Country Club and Gosnells GC, and played in varied weather conditions from high wind and heavy rain to glorious sunshine.

In the Silver Championship for players with handicaps of 21.4 and below, Capel Golf Club’s Lisa Wake (above right) made the early running with an excellent 24-point Stableford haul on day one at The Vines.

With scoring generally more difficult at Gosnells during the final round, Wake plundered 19 points to amass a total of 43, which left her four points clear of runner-up Annette Harbron (Denmark CC). Seeking a ‘three-peat’ in the event, defending champion Marion Nelson (Denmark CC) was third, a point further back.

In a good week for Denmark CC members, Jane Dudley (above left) claimed the Bronze Championship for golfers with handicaps of 21.5 and above to add a second title to the one she earned back in 2016.

Dudley’s 21-point haul gave her a three-point margin of victory over Busselton GC’s Rhonda Davies, who pipped Julie Starcevich (Pink Lake GC) to the runner-up spot on a countback.

In addition to the Silver and Bronze championships, Women’s Country Week also featured two fiercely competed Canadian Foursomes events over 18 holes at both Meadow Springs GC and Rockingham GC.

At Rockingham, Busselton GC duo Chris Fleming and Pam Glossop edged out Denmark CC’s Annette Harbron and Marion Nelson on a countback after both teams had tied on 36 points.

Over at Meadow Springs, Pinjarra GC pairing Debbie Van Vollenstee and Meredyth McLarty fired a fine 38 points to take top spot by two points from Esperance GC’s Dianne Rawlinson and Niccole Cooper.

With various competitions in play, including nett and gross championships for players from sand greens and grass greens courses, there were plenty of prizes to be won throughout the week. You can access all final results and leaderboards here.
