Alex Noren excited to take on new World Super 6 format

5th Jan 2017

World number nine Alex Noren can’t wait to arrive in Perth and tackle the new matchplay format at next month’s groundbreaking ISPS HANDA World Super 6 tournament at Lake Karrinyup Country Club.

The eyes of the golfing world are set to fall on Perth from February 16-19 for the revolutionary new event – where a series of cut-throat six-hole matchplay ties will decide the winner on the final day – in what has been billed as a potential new dawn for the sport.

Noren is a paid-up fan of the idea and the Swede – who enjoyed a meteoric rise into the world’s top-10 on the back of four European Tour wins last year – is looking forward to returning to Western Australia to headline an event that will also include America’s world number eight Patrick Reed and local sensation Curtis Luck.

“I’m really excited to go to Perth and play the World Super 6,” Noren said.

“I’ve been to Perth and I love the people, the beaches there and the city. I’m really looking forward to playing there and playing the new format.“I think it’s great by the tour that we’re trying new things and new formats.

“I’m looking forward to seeing you all there and I think we’re going to have a great time.”

Noren was last in Perth eight years ago, for the Johnnie Walker Classic at The Vines, and has since established himself as one of the hottest properties in world golf.

The 34-year-old ‘s breakthrough season came in 2016 as he finished third in the European Tour’s Race to Dubai – behind countryman Henrik Stenson and Masters champion Danny Willett – while all of his wins arrived in the second-half of the year.

“Alex’s accession into the top-10 is a huge credit to his ability and dedication. Arguably one of the most successful golfers this year makes him a huge coup for the ISPS HANDA World Super 6 Perth,” said Stephen Ayles, Chief Commercial Officer of the PGA of Australia.

“While 2016 has been a career year for Alex, I think 2017 could be even bigger, perhaps starting with a victory in Perth.”

The ISPS HANDA World Super 6 Perth will be played at Lake Karrinyup Country Club from February 16-19 and will form part of both the 2017 European Tour Race to Dubai and the ISPS HANDA PGA Tour of Australasia Order of Merit.
