Albatross Lounge opens doors in Applecross

Albatross Lounge

Perth’s newest alternative golf venue – the Albatross Lounge – has officially opened for business in the Applecross area.

The brainchild of owner Dave Wilson, Albatross Lounge combines cutting-edge simulator technology with a business-class lounge ambience to offer what Wilson believes is a ‘unique, niche’ golfing experience.

Wilson – a keen golfer himself – oversaw a limited soft launch of Albatross Lounge in December ahead of its official opening in March.

Now the business is up and running, he has high hopes that his vision for Albatross Lounge will resonate with golf afficionados across the South Perth area.

“My initial concept was golf simulators in a business-class lounge environment. Naturally, there was some trepidation with the concept as it didn’t fit a particular mould or model,” Wilson told GolfWA.

“A lot of alternate golf simulator businesses approach the game differently, and they’re all good because they’re all offering something different to the customer, whether that be serious game improvement or social golf over a few drinks.

“We’re trying to offer something that fills a unique niche in the market because of the lounge element. Albatross Lounge is a place people can come to work, or to network with like-minded individuals, as well as improving their golf game.”

In terms of technology, Albatross Lounge is at the cutting edge, offering 4k TrackMan on its three simulators screens, which each measure an enormous 5.5m wide by 4.5m high.

“We’ve got some of the most advanced technology on the market and some of the biggest screens,” Wilson continued. “The 4k projectors offer an amazing visual experience and the amount of data users can access about their swing and setup via TrackMan provides all sorts of game improvement opportunities.”

Located in a mixed business/residential block “The Precinct” beside Canning Highway in Mount Pleasant, Wilson knows that Albatross Lounge may never attract a high level of footfall, but says he’s excited about the venue’s future prospects.

“At the moment, we are open to the public but we offer a range of memberships and they are filling up,” he said. “The Holy Grail would be have a membership of about 100 in order to maintain that club environment and ensure that everyone has good access to the facilities.

“We’ve not been open for long, but it’s been so good to see our members and regulars getting to socialise and become a close-knit community.”

Fully licensed, Albatross Lounge also offers electronic darts and a pool table. It is currently from 4pm-10pm on Thursday and Friday; from 11am-10pm on Saturday; and 11am-4pm on Sundays. Bookings can be made online.
