Nestled on the fringes of the beautiful City of Albany, Riverview Golf Club will play host to the 2020 Aglime Sand Greens Championship of Western Australia.
The ‘Sands’ as it is affectionately known is always a highlight on the West Aussie golfing calendar and the tournament is sure to be a wonderful event yet again.
Riverview Golf Club is a fantastic course with dense bush just off the edge of the fairways which should provide a great test of sand greens golf for all competitors.
Aglime of Australia’s long-standing support of this event, and regional golf, continues again in 2020. Dave Gartner and the whole Aglime team have been wonderful supporters of this tournament for many years and we are excited to have them on board again this year.
Long-hitting left-hander Ryan Peake is every chance of claiming back-to-back titles after his dominant performance in Narembeen last year. Peake’s length off the tee is always an advantage but the value of hitting fairways at Riverview may force the Lakelands member to take a more cautious approach.
Adam Davey is a four-time Sand Greens Champion and a sure-bet to feature near the top of the leaderboard come Sunday afternoon. A win in Albany would see Davey only one victory short of Michael Dennis’ record of six titles.
Rodney ‘Rocket’ Shemeld is another former winner who will take his place in the field again this year. This list of former winners also includes Daniel Negus and two-time former champ, Peter Gaby.
GolfWA HP Squad young gun Connor Fewkes will make a highly anticipated debut this year. With few competitive amateur events on the calendar this year, Fewkes will be looking to emulate the form of fellow HP Squad member Kirsten Rudgeley who swooped into Katanning to claim the 2020 Women’s Provincial title.
