Mount Lawley Golf Club and The West Australian Golf Club put on an exceptional show yesterday for the 2021 Sue Goundrey Progressive Golf Day. 136 Ladies from all over the state enjoyed this special event to honour the memory and many years of dedicated service by Sue to Women’s Golf in Western Australia.
Mount Lawley Ladies Captain Sue Thomson shared ,
“Sue Goundrey initially worked as a volunteer with women’s golf, and in particular with the elite golfers where her guidance and advice was appreciated by all the girls.”“As the golfing office expanded and more services were made available to the women members, Women’s Golf WA needed to employ experienced golfing staff and thus Sue joined the team in 2000.”
“As many would know, Sue was very much the face of Women’s Golf, often being the first point of contact in the office and being involved in a vast array of women’s events for over fourteen years. Amongst all her hard work, Sue was known as a character who had a great deal of fun. She entered wholeheartedly into the costume nights after the Regional Seniors, Provisional and Rural Bronze, even winning the famous “frock” on one occasion.”
“Sue made many, many friends throughout the state and there is no doubt she is greatly missed.”
Sue sadly passed in 2015, and this event is run each year to raise funds to continue Sue’s passion of supporting women of all ages in golf to travel, compete and represent WA interstate and abroad.
Congratulations this year to the ladies from Bolgart for taking out the win. Wonderful to see the Bolgart crew on the podium as they have been longtime supporters of this event, and always a pleasure to play alongside. Congratulations Joy Hamilton, Viv Camerer, Barb Blainey and Waverley Jones on some tremendous golf.
The Lake Karrinyup ladies were hot on their heels taking out second place in the progressive event. Congratulations to Carmen Palframen, Jane Abbott, Anne Marie Tsakis and Jo Ford.
Golf WA would like to extend our thanks to the staff and volunteers at Mount Lawley Golf Club and The West Australian Golf Club for generously hosting this annual event. The courses are in magnificent condition and always a treat to enjoy on this special day.
An additional mention must be made to the colourful, motivated and passionate organisers of this year after year, the awesome foursome Lyn Hancock, Sue Thomson, Shonna Gobby and Shirley Reynolds.
Thanks Ladies, another outstanding year continuing Sue’s passion for the growth of women’s golf.
