Donnybrook Country Club is making a difference in the South West and their recent initiative for women’s golf will only continue to grow the game in the region for years to come.
“A Taste of Golf”, sponsored by the WA Golf Foundation, was a roaring success last Sunday, with 13 ladies attending the brilliant event aimed at getting people into the game of golf.
The afternoon consisted of 45 minutes golf tuition from PGA Professional Kate Goddard, with the ladies enjoying wine and nibbles following, to chat over the new skills they had acquired.
The simple but effective event has ladies wanting to continue to pursue their passion for golf, with South West Districts Ladies Association Committee member Lee Fitzgerald pleased with how the day panned out.
“13 ladies braved the cold wind to participate in the Taste of Golf at Donnybrook Country Club on Sunday,” she said.
“The event was proudly sponsored by the WA Golf Foundation and we are so happy to have their support.”
The improvement of ladies throughout the day was evident with plenty of smiles and laughter making for a terrific day out on the course.
“It’s about getting people involved and playing golf at any level, which I think this type of event encourages,” Fitzgerald said.
“Kate Goddard, a PGA Professional, gave the ladies some basic instructions and before long many were getting the ball airborne and enjoying themselves.”
Fitzgerald believes many ladies may take the next step in their golfing journey and continue to play the game, with plans for another event already in place.
“Feedback from the ladies was that it was a lot of fun,” she said.
“They had a lot of fun and are looking forward to another chance to ‘have a go’ at golf.”
“Who knows, there may even be some budding new golfers amongst them”
“We look forward to our next Taste of Golf Day!”
