Maddison Hinson-Tolchard’s breakout year has continued after claiming medallist honours in the South Australian Amateur stroke play event at Flagstaff Hill Golf Club on Tuesday.
The current Australian Junior Champion now adds the medal to her collection in season 2018, following on from a successful trip abroad in America last month.
The 16-year-old didn’t have it all her own way though, defeating Danielle Vasquez on the second playoff hole to clinch the honour.
The in-form Doey Choi finished in third position a further three shots back, while Glenelg’s Charlie Jacobs rounded out the top four.
Hinson-Tolchard remained consistent throughout the two rounds in Adelaide, shooting an even-par 73 on Monday before a 74 on Tuesday was enough to force a playoff.
An eagle on the sixth proved vital in her quest for victory after bogeys on three, four and five almost derailed her shot at the title.
The victory was made all the sweeter given the youngster had been suffering from sickness throughout both rounds.
“It’s great to get a victory particularly when I haven’t felt that great over the past two days,” Hinson-Tolchard said.
“Lucky enough for me it didn’t affect my golf too much.”
The WA Junior State captain will enter the match play tomorrow as the number one seed, taking on Mia Lines for a spot in the last eight.
The Lakes Josh Armstrong took out the Men’s Amateur medal after blitzing the field to finish six-shots clear of Jack Thompson and Toby Walker.
Cooper Geddes was the best-placed Western Australian finishing in a tie for sixth.
