WA pair continue winning ways

8th Oct 2018

Western Australia has secured a rare double at the JNJG International Junior Classic over the weekend with Hayden Hopewell and Kathryn Norris claiming titles in New South Wales.

Hopewell claimed his third tournament victory for 2018, continuing his breakout season. The 16-year-old left his run late in the pouring rain, shooting a two-under-par 70 during the final round to pip New South Welshman Harrison Crow by two shots.

Birdies on 14 and 16 proved decisive moments with more than four players having a chance on the final day to claim the title.

Rounds of 68, 72, 73, and 70 left Hopewell at five-under-par overall and clearly deserved of the crown.

Jordan Jung was the next best WA prospect finishing in sixth position.

Kathryn Norris’ journey to her third title of the season was far more commanding. The reigning Callaway Junior Champion shot under par for each of her four rounds to finish nine shots clear of closest rival Belinda Ji.

The 17-year-old ended at six-under-par overall, the best score since the tournament moved to Cypress Lakes five years ago.

Norris was thrilled to complete another tournament victory, labelling the JNJG International Junior Classic as the “best junior tournament she’s played in around the world.”

The event sees some of the best juniors from around Australia tee off at Cypress Lakes over four stroke play rounds.

Georgia Garner-Dart was the other big winner of the weekend claiming the Sub-Junior title by two-strokes.

The youngster finished ahead of Charlotte Perkins to win the title.

The Sub-Junior includes some of the best 14 & under golfers from around the country with the tournament held at Cessnock Golf Club.
