Despite the weather many clubs braved conditions to celebrate International Women’s Golf Day earlier this month, with several ladies taking on the sport for the first time.
Lakelands Country Club, Denmark Country Club, The Vines Golf & Country Club and Seaview Golf Course hosted highly successful events on Tuesday 5th of June.
GolfWA and Collier Park will be rescheduling their event for later in the year – so stay tuned for an update shortly.
Take a look below at the small summaries of each clinic hosted by the different clubs – with the Ladies Captains giving us their perspective of the day.
Lakelands CC
Rita Conway our Lady Captain has some details on our Ladies Open Day held Tuesday 12th June.
We had a field of 96 Ladies from 15 different Golf Clubs and it was a fabulous day even though we had some rain.
Denmark CC
Shirley Dempster Ladies Captain of Denmark Country Club ran a combined event for International Women’s Golf Day, which consisted of a revision clinic for our Beginner ladies golf group and a social 9 hole game of golf, followed by a cuppa, cake and conversation.
Photo of the few brave ladies who battled the wild and woolly conditions on the course. We were trying to stand up straight against the wind.
The Vines CC
Kerry O’Meara Lady Captain of The Vines:
We had 64 in the field. Only 59 turned up for the 9 hole event. Mark Tibbles gave a few hints on the putting green. There were 26 newbies and 33 Lady Members. We had a 9 hole 4 Ball Ambrose . It was a great morning!
Sea View GC
Marion Gathercole Ladies Captain
A photo of the ladies dressed with a touch of red is attached. The photo was taken before the rain and the wind came in. We held a putting clinic in the clubhouse, plus a few rules, before the eager faces had as venture onto the course for two and a half holes in the wind and light rain. The new ladies giving golf a go were delighted with the combination of activities. Once we recovered from the wet, we enjoyed a coffee, some camaraderie and a light lunch.
All in all a successful day, even if not the bumper crowd we would have liked.
